Duda Jan-Krzysztof wins European Blitz Chess Championship 2021

European Blitz Chess Championship 2021 took place on 17th of December in Katowice, Poland.

After 22 rounds, Duda Jan-Krzysztof (POL, 2792) became the sole Winner of the event, scoring 18 points.

Klekowski Maciej (POL, 2444) scored 17.5 points to claim silver.

Eight players tied for the third place with score of 16.5 points each: Balog Imre (HUN, 2678), Demchenko Anton (RUS, 2531), Schneider Ilja (GER, 2524), Tazbir Marcin (POL, 2518), Bernadskiy Vitaliy (UKR, 2500), Teclaf Pawel (POL, 2431), Dragnev Valentin (AUT, 2396) and Keinanen Toivo (FIN, 2358).

Tiebreaks criteria decided that the European Champion in Reykjavik 2021 Demchenko Anton takes bronze medal.

The total prize fund of the event was 11.000 EUR, with 2.000 EUR reserved for the European Blitz Chess Champion 2021. Besides the regular prizes for the best ranked 20 players, the best Juniors, Seniors, Women, and best players of different rating categories were awarded with special prizes.

European Rapid&Blitz Chess Championships 2021 start in Katowice

The 2021 European Rapid&Blitz Chess Championships 2021 kick off on Friday, 17th of December in Katowice, Poland.

The first event on the schedule will be the European Blitz Chess Championship 2021 which will be held on 17th of December. The event will be played in 11 double rounds, Swiss system, with time control 3 min + 2 sec.

More than 550 players coming from 21 European federations registered for the Blitz event, and the battlefield is led by: GM Duda Jan-Krzysztof (POL, 2792), GM Balog Imre (HUN, 2678), GM Kovalenko Igor (LAT, 2638), GM Sumets Andrey (UKR, 2619), and GM Durarbayli Vasif (AZE, 2599).

The European Rapid Chess Championship 2021 will take place from 18th-19th December and it will be played in 11 rounds, Swiss system, with time control of 15 min + 10 sec.

More than 600 players from 22 European federations are registered for the Rapid Championship. The top seeds are: GM Motylev Alexander (RUS, 2703), GM Demchenko Anton (RUS, 2666), GM Kovalenko Igor (LAT, 2649), GM Balog Imre (HUN, 2629), and GM Bernadskiy Vitaliy (UKR, 2616).

The total prize fund of the events is 30.000 EUR with 11.000 EUR reserved for Blitz competition, and 19.000 EUR for Rapid event. Despite the regular prizes for the best ranked players, the organizers provided special prizes for best female player, senior player, junior player and for best players of different rating categories.

The Championship is under the auspices of Prime Minister of Poland Mr. Mateusz Morawiecki.
